I just wrote a lengthy post but BL was down as I submitted and lost it all.... So I will keep it breif.
Hello All, Please note i am not simply trying to source drugs, rather fix a mental health issue.
I have been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome as a child, never had many friends and was always the quiet one. I also stress out extremely easy over the smallest things, among other symptoms. I was prescribed dexamphetamine to help me with CBT but did not like the idea of being on medications so I never took them. The CBT obviously didn't work because of my severe debilitating anxiety.
As I grew older, took on more responsibilities, the Aspergers Syndrome became more debilitating and my GP prescribed me many different SSRI/SNRI and benzos at varying dosages to no success. I have spoken this through with my mum and she said she will come with me to the psychiatrist in hope I can get some medication to help me able to do CBT without freaking out and not saying a word.
Should I tell my psych that past MDMA use completely reversed the effects of Aspergers or will that stop me being prescribed a medication I truly believe would help me tremendously.
So my main question is given my age 24 what are the chances of being prescribed a stimulant such as dexamphetamine to help me through the CBT and how long does CBT last? (as in do I need to keep doing it forever) Will i be dependant on medications for the rest of my life?
First off, let me just say one thing. Sounds like you've had a tough childhood/adolescence and even adulthood, and for that, I feel bad for you bro, but it could be worse, you could have brain damage. Many, many people with Asperger's have made something of their lives and themselves (look at Sheldon Cooper from that terrible show, 'Big Bang Theory', his character suffers from Asperger's, as in like awkward situations socially etc. can be put down to a quirky personality, and some people find this type of behaviour interesting, as it violates the norms of society and the restrictions it has upon oneself).
Treatment usually consists of attacking the co-morbid conditions associated with Asperger's. Attentional deficits are best treated with Long Acting formulations of methylphenidate, such as Concerta/Ritalin LA. Although if you're super keen on it, Dexamphetamine in a low dosage (10-15 mg twice a day, so in other words, 4-6 tablets a day) is an option.
Considering you were diagnosed as a child/adolescent and have a prior history of Dexamphetamine prescriptions in your name (even though you didn't take it), this suggests to me that you are eligible for Dexamphetamine. Many, many cases of adult ADHD (people over 18 years of age) taking stimulants to treat their condition(s) are prevalent throughout Australia, and the world.
For Concerta 54 mg: Treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in a patient diagnosed between the ages of 6 and 18 years inclusive, who has demonstrated a response to immediate release methylphenidate hydrochloride with no emergence of serious adverse events, and who requires continuous coverage over 12 hours.
For Ritalin: Use in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, in accordance with State/Territory law.
For Dexamphetamine:
Use in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, in accordance with State/Territory law;
Narcolepsy.
Don't tell your psychiatrist straight away that you have used MDMA in the past, as MDMA ain't available on a prescription, fucking government...rather, once you've built up a good psydoc-patient relationship, tell him that you have flirted with MDMA in the past, and it works.
As for your crippling, severe anxiety, there is always Hypnodorm as a last resort.
Here's what it says the criteria for prescribing Hypnodorm is:
Patients with terminal disease;
Patients with refractory phobic or anxiety states.
Note
For short-term use and palliative care. This drug should not be used as the first line of treatment. Other PBS-listed benzodiazepines should have been adequately tried and found to be ineffective or inappropriate. Authorities for increased quantities and/or repeats may be granted to patients with terminal disease, and other patients who have been shown to be dependent on this item by an unsuccessful attempt at gradual withdrawal.
Dexamphetamine (20-30 mg a day) plus Flunitrazepam (2 mg a day) should be a good combination to treat your condition (Dexamphetamine for increased sociability/willingness to participate in social activities, and Hypnodorm for your anxiety. As for CBT, keep working away at that with your psychologist, don't tell the psychiatrist that you're engaging in psychotherapy with a psychologist otherwise he might be a bit offended and treat you like shit. Also, go for an old timer psychiatrist. One that's been around for years, been practicing Psychiatric Medicine for at least 20-30 years.
Hope that this helps you.
Dexamphetamine is now a med for Asperger?
Dexamphetamine has a lot of off-label uses, even in Australia. Obesity/narcolepsy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Daytime Sleepiness/ADHD/autism spectrum disorders and of course, ADHD. The shrink, if he is a decent enough of a man and cares about his patients well-being, will just say to Medicare/DDU or whomever he calls in order to get clearance for prescribing the drug, that this patient suffers from ADHD.
