“She”
By: Jelly Roll

[Verse 1]
I see the sunrise in her eyes
Before the cold November rain
And if you only knew her smile
You'd never know that she's in pain
Nobody ever saw it comin'
It started with a little pill
One thing led to another
Since then, it's all been downhill

[Chorus]
She was the life of the party
She was the one everybody
Used to wanna hang around
I bet they wonder where she is now
I wish I woulda known
Beforе she was too far gone
I'm afraid to lose hеr now
She's afraid of comin' down

[Verse 2]
I don't wanna say goodbye
But she can't get herself to stop
I know that it'll take some time
But I'm scared that might be something that we don't got
Now everybody knows it's somethin'
They see the writing on the wall
And she feels like she's flyin'
While we're all watching her fall

[Chorus]
She was the life of the party
She was the one everybody
Used to wanna hang around
I bet they wonder where she is now
I wish I woulda known
Before she was too far gone
I'm afraid to lose her now
She's afraid of comin' down

[Outro]
She's afraid of comin' down

The 4st 7lb by the manic street peachers
Rip richey.

I eat too much to die
And not enough to stay alive
I'm sitting in the middle waiting
Days since I last pissed, cheeks sunken and despaired
So gorgeous sunk to six stone, lose my only remaining home
See my third rib appear, a week later all my flesh disappear
Stretching taut, cling film on bone, I'm getting better
Karen says I've reached my target weight
Kate and Emma and Kristin know it's fake
Problem is diet's not a big enough word
I wanna be so skinny that I rot from view
I, I, I, I want to walk in the snow
And not leave a footprint
I, I, I, I wanna walk in the snow
And not soil it's purity
Stomach collapsed at five, lift up my skirt, my sex is gone
Naked and lovely and 5ft 2, may I bud and never flower
My vision's getting blurred but I can see my ribs and I feel fine
My hands are trembling stalks and I can feel my breasts are sinking
Mother tries to choke me with roast beef
And sits savoring her sole Ryvitta
"That's the way you're built?, my father said
But I can change, my cocoon shedding
I, I, I, I, I want to walk in the snow
And not leave a footprint
I, I, I, I, I want to walk in the snow
And not soil it's purity
Kate and Kristin and Kit Kat
All things I like looking at
Too weak to fuss, too weak to die
Choice is skeletal in everybody's life
I choose, my choice, I starve to frenzy
Hunger soon passes and sickness soon tires
Legs bend, stockinged I am Twiggy
And I don't mind the horror that surrounds me
Self worth scatters, self esteems a bore
I long since moved to a higher plateau
This discipline's so rare, so please applaud
Just look at the fat scum who pamper me so
Yeah, 4st 7, an epilogue of youth
Such beautiful dignity in self abuse
I've finally come to understand life
Through staring blankly at my navel

    Ohh ohh

I see the world, feel the chill
    Which way to go, windowsill
I see the words on a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain, ohh

    Ohh

    Ohh
Oh, dear dad, can you see me now?
I am myself, like you somehow
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

    Ohh I, ohh ohh

Oh, dear dad, can you see me now?
I am myself like you somehow

  • Joao Pedro Flores from Brasil RjAmazing song
Anyone can explain to me why the intro from "Once" is also played in the last 5 minutes of this track?
  • Valerie from Pittsburgh‘Release’ plays over the opening scene and ending credits on the Film “Out Of The Furnace”. You hear those beautiful strings from Stone Gossard disappear as the movie begins, and they beautifully reappear as the story ends & the song plays out over the ending credits as the emotions of the Film’s story wash over you for another few precious minutes. One of the finest scoring choices i’ve had the pleasure of witnessing.
  • Kirk from Mason MiEddie Vedder has a special way of singing and really make you see a clear picture of words and meanings
  • AnonymousHas he ever said oh dear God in any rendition?
  • Pat from JerseyMy favorite song of all time!!! gives me the chills every time i listen to it!!!
  • Scott from Ontario CanadaI can relate to the song myself and I enjoy the song.
  • John Abella from EdmontonHe met his dad just didn't know it was him.
  • Zander from Los AngelesThis is very similar to "Elderly Woman", (or that song is similar to this) in chord progression and even the melody of Vedder's vocals.
  • Al from Wf, TxObviously it's a "closure" type of song. It's full of empathy, understanding and a sense of "releasing" any bad feelings/memories/thoughts. It sounds as though Eddie is making an attempt to communicate to his real father and showing him what he has done and how he did it. It's so personal and intense that it's hard to imagine the feeling Eddie had when he realized too late what he knows now.
  • Zero from Nowhere, NjThe main riff is really one chord played in arpeggio form with subtle note changes in parts.
  • Alek from Ottawa, OnLook at what I found on their site!!

    Lyrics:

    I see the world
    Feel the chill
    Which way to go
    Windowsill
    I see the words
On a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain

    Oh dear dad
    Can you see me now
    I am myself
    Like you somehow
    I'll ride the wave
    Where it takes me
    I'll hold the pain
    Release me

    Oh dear dad
    Can you see me now
    I am myself
    Like you somehow
I'll wait up in the dark
For you to speak to me
    I'll open up
    Release me
    Release me
    Release me
    Release me
  • Kimberly from St. Louis, MoI am completely convinced that the line in question is "I see the words on a rocking horse of time. I see the verse in the rain.."
I can't find anything online to justify this, but I by no means hear "birds".
  • Bill from Pierce , IdThis is one of those songs that reminds me to thank Almighty God for blessing us with this amazing musical group called Pearl Jam.
  • Zubin from Mumbai, Indiai have shed tears and missed my dad so much when i hear this song!!!it makes me weak!!!!
  • Dan from Woodinville, WaI'm pretty sure he came up with the first verse just chilling in the front lobby of Studio X/ Bad Animals (recording studio) in Seattle, as I remember hanging out up front and chatting with him. Looking out the front windows, you can "see the world", and the "birds in the rain". Not to mention when the FedEx guy came and opened the door, a cold wind came in, thus the "chill" that he feels in the song.

  • George from Chicago, Ilps... i also think this is a song about eddie being released when he rides waves. in the fact that he feels released when he is out in the ocean cuz i know he is an avid surfer and that is his release.
  • George from Chicago, Ili love how that it being improvised can be completely beautiful
  • Wes from Littlestown, PaThey're is nothing in the world like hearing this song live...gives me chills everytime.
  • Mark from Horseheads, NyHey Ash, I like your depiction of this song, especially your last sentence: Eddie is "calling on the memory of his father to see him and release him from his" ongoing pain that he's probably endured over time without knowing his true father. Yet I think the line "Oh she walks slow..." in Alive is in reference to him getting some tail for the very first time, and not a reference to his mother. I think references to his mother, which are very apparent in this song, are early on, but only in the first verse. The first verse in Alive definitely explains his mother's revelation to Eddie of his real conception. Now the second verse, "She walks slow," I think is absolutely a reference to the first time he gets laid, and nothing to do with his mother....God, I hope not. Eddie's weird, but not that weird, I pray. "The look..you know where...I just stare"....that's some puddin tang, son!
Back to this song (sorry), I've checked numerous refencences to the lyric "I see the .....Supposedly he says "I see the birds and the rainbow...ooohhh. But what I still hear is "I see the virgin rainbow". This site states that Eddie swore to keep this song's lyrics secret. So maybe all commentators have mistaken this line for "I see the birds...in the rain...oh." No, I think it's "virgin rainbow." And no, I'm not a virgin, although such geek talk would presume such a notion.
  • Rico from Leamington, CanadaRelease is about Eddie and his relationship with his father "Oh dear dad, can you see me now... I am myself, like you some how" Eddie had little relationship with his biological father as his mother had divorced and remarried when Eddie was very young. He grew up being told that his actual father was his uncle and he would visit on occassion. When Eddie was older and hid "uncle" was dying his mother finally told him the truth (Ala "Alive" Oh she walked slowly across the young man's room, she said I'm ready for you" by then it was too late to form a relationship as his father dided not soon after. Eddie never got along with his stepfather as they had little in common. He is calling on the memory of his biological fater to see him and release him from the pain of never getting to truly have spent time with him as a son... sad story.

Too weak to fuss, too weak to die
Choice is skeletal in everybody's life
I choose, my choice, I starve to frenzy
Hunger soon passes and sickness soon tires
Legs bend, stockinged I am Twiggy
And I don't mind the horror that surrounds me

Oh boy this was a go to triggering song for me back when I was borderline anorexic 😵‍💫🤦‍♀️

The Future

Give me back my broken night
My mirrored room, my secret life
It's lonely here
There's no one left to torture
Give me absolute control
Over every living soul
And lie beside me, baby
That's an order
Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
And stuff it up the hole
In your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St. Paul
I've seen the future, brother
It is murder
Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing (won't be nothing)
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
Has crossed the threshold
And it's overturned
The order of the soul
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
You don't know me from the wind
You never will, you never did
I'm the little Jew
Who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
But love's the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
To say it clear, to say it cold
It's over, it ain't going
Any further (do, do, do)
And now the wheels of heaven stop
You feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future
It is murder (do, do, do)
Things are going to slide
Slide in all directions
Won't be nothing (won't be)
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
Has crossed the threshold
And it's overturned
The order of the soul
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
There'll be the breaking of the ancient
Western code
Your private life will suddenly explode (ooh, ooh)
There'll be phantoms
There'll be fires on the road
And the white man dancing
You'll see a woman
Hanging upside down (ooh, ooh)
Her features covered by her fallen gown (ooh, ooh)
And all the lousy little poets
Coming round
Tryin' to sound like Charlie Manson
Yeah, the white man dancin'
Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St. Paul
Give me Christ or give me Hiroshima (do, do, do)
Destroy another fetus now
We don't like children anyhow
I've seen the future, baby
It is murder (do, do, do)
Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing (won't be)
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
Has crossed the threshold
And it's overturned
The order of the soul
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)
I wonder what they meant
When they said (they said) repent (repent), repent (repent)

I wonder what they meant

Broken Glass

It's fun to run, it's fun to play
It's fun to make things out of clay
It's fun to fill your car with gas
It's fun to break things made of glass
It's fun to spray yourself with mace
It's fun to squeeze your mother's face
It's fun to mow your daddy's grass
It's fun to break things made of glass
But broken glass can cut your hand
And then you'll bleed across the land
Ask any woman, child or man
The dangers you could pass
With broken glass
With broken glass
I like nice girls with gum disease
I like to tickle peoples' knees
Don't tell me no, just tell me yass
And then we'll break things made of glass
Sometimes I put on special pants
And then I board a plane to France
When I arrive I start to dance
And then I break things made of glass
(Yeah, I know that dance doesn't rhyme with glass)
(So, whatcha gonna do about it, huh?)
But broken glass will tell you lies
Bleed your soul and blind your eyes
Like a demon with a side of fries
You better beware of broken glass
Of broken glass
(Children, that glass sure looks delicious, doesn't it?)
(But you can't eat it!)
"Cause broken glass is not a food
So don't you listen to some dude
Who says put cheese on broken glass
And make a sand-a-wich
Out of broken glass
Broken glass isn't good for your tummy
Although you may think it's kind of yummy
Don't eat that glass, don't be a dummy
Just stay in school and don't eat broken glass
Don't eat broken glass
Let's sing a song about broken glass
I'll help you write it after class
There is no song that can surpass
The song we sing
About broken glass
Let's sing a song about broken glass
I'll help you write it after class
There is no song that can surpass
The song we sing
(About broken glass)

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel,
Is just a freight train coming your way.

Thank you Metallica

Would, by Alice in Chains

Know me broken by my master
Teach thee on child, love hereafter

Into the flood again
Same old trip it was back then
So I made a big mistake
Try to see it once my way

Drifting body, it's sole desertion
Flying, not yet quite the notion

Into the flood again
Same old trip it was back then
So I made a big mistake
Try to see it once my way

Into the flood again
Same old trip it was back then
So I made a big mistake
Try to see it once my way

Am I wrong?
Have I run too far to get home?
Have I gone?
Left you here alone

Am I wrong?
Have I run too far to get home?
Have I gone?
Left you here alone

If I would, could you?

Strobe Life, by The Bronx

Quiet like an elevator even the walls are scared
I'm dependent on a generator just to breath in air

Medication medication
Signatures and stares
Watching all the lights come down
Never wanting to care

These circles seem so strange
I run around and around but nothing's changed

Medication medication
Signatures and stares
I'm reinventing brand new lives
Like they were never there

I never want to run out
Get more can't stand waiting
I never want to run out
Don't stop the lines from fading

It's time to wake up
I've been asleep for far too long
It's time to wake up
Before the pain I feel is gone

I never want to run out

The Drug's Don't Work (The Verve)

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down, my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm coming down

And I hope you're thinking of me
As you lay down on your side
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again
But I know I'm on a losing streak

As I pass down by your street
And if you wanna show, then just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

'Cause baby, oh
If heaven falls, I'm coming too
Just like you said
You leave my life, I'm better off dead

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down, my Lord
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm coming down

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again

'Cause baby, oh
If heaven falls, I'm coming too
Just like you said
You leave my life, I'm better off dead
But if you wanna show
Then just let me know and I'll sing in your ear again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again, oh, Lord
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down now, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more, no more

99 Luftballons

Hast du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von neunundneunzig Luftballons, auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst du vielleicht grad an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von neunundneunzig Luftballons
Und, dass so was von so was kommt

Neunundneunzig Luftballons

Witterten schon fette Beute
Riefen "Krieg!" und wollten Macht
Mann, wer hätte das gedacht
Dass es einmal soweit kommt
Wegen neunundneunzig Luftballons
Wegen neunundneunzig Luftballons

Neunundneunzig Jahre Krieg
Ließen keinen Platz für Sieger
Kriegsminister gibt's nicht mehr
Und auch keine Düsenflieger
Heute zieh' ich meine Runden
Seh' die Welt in Trümmern liegen
Hab 'n Luftballon gefunden
Denk' an dich und lass' ihn fliegen

Stacy's Dad

Stacy's dad has got me down bad
Stacy's dad has got me down bad

Stacy can I come over in my car-ar-ar-ar
(in my car)
We can change the oil and hang out in the gara-a-a-age
(ménage a garage)
Did your dad get back from the hardware store?
(hardware store)
Is he there or is he reading about the Civil War?
(Civil War)

And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your mom came out, your dad could use a guy like me

Stacy's dad has got me down bad
He's all I want and I think he's a real chad
Stacy, can't you see, it's Mr. Stacy's Mom for me
I know it might be bad but I'm in love with Stacy's dad

Stacy's dad has got me down bad
Stacy's dad has got me down bad

Stacy do you remember grilling on your la-a-a-awn
(on your lawn)
Your dad was there with just his apron o-o-o-on
(apron on)
I could tell he liked me from the look he had
(look he had)
And the way he said, "You want some mustard on tha-a-a-at?"
(hi hungry I'm dad)

You know I'm not the little slugger that I used to be
I'm all grown up now, daddy, can't you see?

Stacy's dad has got me down bad
He's all I want and I think he's a real chad
Stacy, it's not you, I'm just kind of into dudes
I know it might be bad but I'm in love with Stacy's dad

Stacy's dad has got me down bad
(got me down bad)
He's all I want and I think he's a real chad
(driving me crazy)
Stacy, can't you see, it's Mr. Stacy's Mom for me
I know it might be bad but I'm in love with

Stacy's dad, oh-oh, oh-oh
(I'm in love with)
Stacy's dad, oh-oh, oh-oh
(wait a minute)
Stacy, can't you see, it's Mr. Stacy's Mom for me
I know it might be bad but I'm in love with Stacy's dad

She ain't got no money
Her clothes are kinda funny
Her hair is kinda wild and free
Oh, but Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

She talks kinda lazy
And people say she she's crazy
And her life's a mystery
Oh, but Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

There's something about her hand holding mine
It's a feeling that's fine
And I just gotta say
She's really got a magical spell
And it's working so well
That I can't get away

I'm a lucky fella
And I've just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Because Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

There's something about her hand holding mine
It's a feeling that's fine
And I just gotta say
She's really got a magical spell
And it's working so well
That I can't get away

I'm a lucky fella
And I've just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Because Love grows where my Rosemary goes
And nobody knows like me

It keeps growing every place she's been
And nobody knows like me
If you've met her, you'll never forget her
And nobody knows like me
La la la- believe it when you've seen it
Nobody knows like me

All I Want is You

If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I'd want is you to be my sweet honey bee
And if I was a tree growing tall and green
All I'd want is you to shade me and be my leaves

If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I'd want is you to be my sweet honey bee
And if I was a tree growing tall and green
All I'd want is you to shade me and be my leaves
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side?
All I want is you, will you stay with me
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea?

If you were a river in the mountains tall
The rumble of your water would be my call
If you were the winter, I know I'd be the snow
Just as long as you were with me when the cold winds blow
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side?
All I want is you, will you stay with me
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea?
If you were a wink, I'd be a nod
If you were a seed, well, I'd be a pod
If you were the floor, I'd wanna be the rug
And if you were a kiss, I know I'd be a hug
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side?
All I want is you, will you stay with me
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea?
If you were the wood, I'd be the fire
If you were the love, I'd be the desire
If you were a castle, I'd be your moat
And if you were an ocean, I'd learn to float
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side?
All I want is you, will you stay with me
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea?
